Hrm... Thinking about it.
An idea of mine is to have some sort of supernatural group, say something like the Unseleigh (sp?), slip in somewhere and become a bad influence in general to
cause events to lead up to something like WWII. This can definitely be awesome as we could lend shades of Palpatine's Empire to this, and have various
rebellion factions fighting them with help from the Allies.
In order to suit the story line, Japan, Germany, and Italy can be all subverted in this manner, thus causing the Hanagumi to desire to go into deep hiding,
complete with a spiritual seal to ensure that there's no way they are ever detected. Of course, once the dust settles, no one that knew where they were
hidden is left alive and the Hanagumi become a lost legend of the modern age until someone stumbles upon them in 1968-or-9.
BTW: Understand that I only have the Sakura Taisen TV anime to go off of here, and it seems to leave a lot of the world affairs stuff by the wayside to focus
on what's going on right in the Emperor's back yard. So, since Orihime doesn't seem to make an appearance in the anime... Pity that - I was looking
forward to seeing how she'd tear it up with he laser beams.
Anyhow, what's fun about this is that I can really turn the world on it's head with this stuff, like having Hitler actually being a noble and brave
defender of humanity (though while he doesn't hate Jews, he doesn't care much for people that aren't 'self-made'). AUs are so much fun in
this way.
