I really couldn't bear to read more than a quarter of this chapter. As to what is wrong, I think he is trying very hard to write fiction with a serious
message. Unfortunately, he's bad at it. When he writes with pure parody in mind, he's golden. When he tries to make a political, sociological, or
religious point, things go down the drain fast. First of all, his views on many subjects are kind of weird by my lights, but that's not insurmountable. I
have read and enjoyed many stories by writers with views of the world I don't agree with. Secondly, he's incredibly heavy-handed when trying to make a
serious point, which derails the story and turns it into a poorly-constructed political essay.
