BTVS and The Ballad of Mulan - preferably non-Disneyed - are a pretty natural fit, I thoght. A quick search revealed that http://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-24349/Ga ... erious.htm]a couple of http://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-20341/Ko ... Before.htm]other people also thought so, but neither one is even close to a thousand words, let alone a satisfying exploration of the concept. The original ballad (The copy I found is appended to http://www.docstoc.com/docs/53873584/Fe ... neys-Mulan]#]this article on the evils of "post-feminist" films made by the repressive patriarchy, which is a hard slog even if you agree in principle) ends with her having fought in the wars for twelve years and not dead yet - surely a good record for a Slayer, no?
