First up is Sakura's...reaction the the Blitz's stealth...
Quote:The Vesalius
"What?"
The tone was completely flat. Sakura stared at the screen before her, face void of any emotion.
"What?"
She
was studying the data on the captured Gundams. The Duel and Buster were
both simple enough. The Aegis was as well. The Prophecy was a tad more
complex, with that rather interesting system it had, but fair enough.
"What?"
However,
the Blitz did not make any sense. It was a stealth unit? A true stealth
unit? And Nicol had tested it during the battle yesterday... and it
worked?
"WHAT!"
THIS WASN'T POSSIBLE!
"You can't do that!"
screeched Sakura, yanking on her own hair in frustration. "Even if you
can achieve invisibility and dodge radar, what the hell happened to the
heat signature? For that matter, how the fuck can you see anything? If everything's being bent around, none of it should be reaching the pilot! WHAT. THE FUCK. IS THIS. SHIT? FUCK!"
Feeling
like her mind was shattering into a thousand tiny pieces, Sakura
started spitting out every curse word she knew, in every language she
knew and some she did not, and started making up new curse words on the
spot and turning normal words into curse words.
All of it completely nonsensical.
Sufficed
to say, anyone who heard the noise coming from her quarters stayed well
away for the rest of the day. Athrun, whose quarters were right next
door, slept in the lounge that night.
Quote:Most of the others felt the same about it. Only a few particularly
egotistical pilots thought they could take the 8th Fleet without very
heavy losses. And, for her own part, Sakura thought it would be nice to
see Hannah again, having met all three admirals during her tenure with
the Megami Team. And although she'd been only one of thirty individuals
present for that meeting, she was certain they all remembered her,
because... well...
"Sakura!"
After the pilots all met in the Enduring's briefing hall, it didn't take long before half the Megami Team buried Sakura in a pile of nubile female flesh.
The
individuals currently hanging all over her? Yukana Yagami, Himeko
Aisuru, Seika Nazukego, Marina and Nozomi Nakajima, Sein Mizuhashi,
Shizuka Ishiyama and Kana Yagami, the captain of the Herald,
Yukana's half-sister, and resident psycho lesbian pervert of the Megami
Team. She was, in fact, the reason most of the pilots quarters on the
destroyers had reinforced doors with triple security layers, which
proved rather convenient with one Mu La Flaga locked up inside.
Meanwhile, Hannah, the crew of the Enduring,
and the Megami Team watched all of this, clearly amused by the
situation, while everyone else was gaping in astonishment. Okay, sure,
Sakura was pretty, but this kind of behavior made no sense.
"Shizuru! Alyssa! Kaori-sensei! God damn it, help!" came Sakura's slightly muffled voice from somewhere inside the pilot.
"Oh?
Why do you need our help?" questioned Alyssa, an all-too-apparent
teasing note present in her voice. "Aren't you a lesbian? Why are you
complaining about being the eternal recipient of every lesbian's wet
dream to have a horde of nubile females hanging all over her?"
"God damn it! Hosaka! Reika!"
What
happened next was nearly missed by the large gathering: a young man in
simple blue clothes and an equally young woman in a custom French maid
uniform seemed to flash by them and in an instant the seven Dark Angels
and the psycho lesbian Kana were tossed away from Sakura, whose hair and
custom uniform were utterly disheveled from the massive group hug.
Judging from certain areas, it appeared someone -- no doubt Kana -- had
successfully groped her.
"Lady Sakura, please be more careful in
your meetings with the Megami Team," said Reika formally as she
immediately went to work fixing up Sakura's appearance, not allowing the
brunette the opportunity to object.
"Yes... they're quite
excitable, wouldn't you say, Lady Sakura?" commented Hosaka cheerfully,
looking back at Sakura and Reika, but keeping one eye on the disgruntled
Angels, most of whom were irritated at the barrier to their teasing.
Sakura was too busy counting down from twenty to answer. Reika finished fixing up her appearance in record time.
Quote:"I guess I can see why she'd be marked by Alyssa," she commented. "I
don't know the details on her piloting skills, but she's impressive
nevertheless. She proved herself at Okinawa."
"Huh?" Rusty blinked. "What about Okinawa?"
"Ah...
well... heh... " Mai chuckled slightly. "That's where the supply base for
Kaohsiung was located. The details are unclear, but... well, her method of
escape is fairly well known, to an extent: she set the entire coast of
Okinawa on fire."
Everyone stared at Mai in shock.
"What?" questioned Stella.
***
Even Rau and Harland were gaping. Somewhere along the line, Hannah
had teased Sakura about the nickname given by the Dark Angels, which led
to questions about the nickname itself, which led to Alyssa, Shizuru
and Kaori detailing the incident for a mortified Sakura.
"You set fire to the entire Okinawan coast?" questioned Athrun in disbelief. Sakura let out a small, nervous laugh.
"How... ?" Nicol couldn't say anything more.
"Well... I'll leave out the details," said Sakura. "But... let's just say I used three boulders, two derelict satellites, a broken Nelson
cruiser, my GINN and an N-jammer, both stripped down, a drop pod heat
shield, two large parachutes, the supply base itself, three Spearhead
fighters, a naval carrier, one big ass rock, a coil spring, some piano
wire, a roll of poultry netting, a heavy ceramic flute... and a spare hair
tie ribbon."
Everyone stared at her. She could tell that, just
like the Dark Angels had been, they were trying to figure out how she
could use those items to single-handedly set fire to an entire island
coastline on foot.
"That's... that's insane," muttered one pilot, staring at Sakura with awe. "How does that all work?"
"I'm
not sharing that," said the brunette firmly. "I'm sure whatever you
come up with will make more sense than what really happened anyways."
Quote:"Mobile fighters have several major advantages over other mobile
weapons," said Kagami. "They're more than just transforming machines
like the Guardian. They have a unique control system, with considerably
finer movement control. They use unique thruster systems that allow them
to maneuver however they want regardless of the environment. Their
transforming nature allows them to adapt to any combat role they need to
fill. Their frames are unique from those of any other machine.""The
list goes on," said Mai, interrupting the brunette before she got too
much further. "One thing to keep in mind though is that they were
developed as a space fighter first. The armor mode, as I'm sure you've
already seen, is quite powerful on its own. In truth, the additional
forms are really there as a fallback and to balance the scales against
mobile suits, letting them fight on even ground."
"That makes sense," said Flay.
"Yes,
well, thruster consumption can be a bit of an issue," said Mai,
somewhat dismissively. "But that's just another reason to have multiple
forms. AMBAC can help cut down on thrusters quite a bit. There are many
virtues to various mobile weapon designs -- mobile armors tend to be simple
affairs, but there's potential to evolve the design. Mobile suits
support AMBAC and versatility. Mobile walkers are more limited than the
others, but are basically moving weapons platforms of various makes; the
Vikings are swift and versatile, while the Thors have enough firepower
to level a small city and can take direct hits from the main cannons of a
land battleship. Mobile fighters are fast and agile, with greater
versatility and agility than a mobile suit, and more firepower than just
about any mobile weapon except the Thor. Their only weakness is that
they don't have very much armor, but the best strategy in a fight is to
avoid getting in the first place."
A moment of silence followed that little speech. Then, Kira finally voiced what everyone was thinking.
"You really like mobile fighters, don't you?"
"Yes!" said Mai and Kagami in unison. The others decided to let the subject drop, for the sake of their own sanity.
Quote:Terra Firma-class Worldship Frontier Island-1
1209 HoursTerra Firma
worldships were technically twenty-three different ships attached to
one another, with two crisscrossing trains of eleven vessels attached to
each 'back corner' of the larger circular main ship. These twenty-three
vessels were referred to as 'islands', with 'Island-1' being the main
ship, Island-2 being the first port-side ship, Island-3 being the first
starboard-side ship, and so on.
The smaller 'islands' were each
about fifteen kilometers long and five kilometers in width -- nearly ten
miles long, and just over three miles wide. The main 'Island-1' section
of a Terra Firma-class vessel was a tremendous disk sixteen kilometers in diameter with a huge glass-like dome covering it.
Besides being, quite literally, the largest vessels ever built by human hands, the most notable aspect of the Terra Firma-class
was that they possessed true artificial gravity, a technology long
considered impossible before being made a reality by joint research of
the finest minds -- Natural or Coordinator -- in the Earth Sphere, back in
Cosmic Era 65. In addition to allowing for the removal of many
space-consuming features normally needed on space vessels, thus making
the worldships a viable place for civilian life, this allowed the
vessels to produce natural environments beyond even the capabilities of
the PLANTs. The only problem with the technology was the tremendous
power requirements, which meant the smallest vessel to be equipped with
it was the Gaia-class battle fortress.
Despite their intended purposes of hosting a large civilian populace, the Terra Firma-class
was far from vulnerable. At the front of Island-1, each vessel of this
class included a huge, mile long warship, referred to as the guardian
ship. They were capable of carrying hundreds of mobile weapons and
possessed firepower only matched by Amaterasu Corporation's Gaia-class battle fortress. Added to these guardian ships, the worldships were surrounded by a fleet of Ryu-class battleships, Yuki-class battlecruisers, and Wyvern-class destroyers. Even without these protective warships, the Terra Firma possessed one other, extremely nasty surprise.
Two worldships existed, Frontier and Galaxy,
and they were the heart of the joint Amate-Sakurai Fleet. They were the
vessels that effectively turned the two groups from mere corporations
into nations in their own right.
Aboard Frontier, there was
a rather notable building, a huge, five hundred meter tall tower. Next
to it was a large, open stadium currently hosting a live concert of Miho
Yukari. Within the tower itself, a meeting was being held regarding the
fall of Victoria.
Quote:The surprise came from the fact that Sakura was by Ali's side -- having
stubbornly refused to continue resting without speaking to her friends
first.
"Stubborn brat you got here Le Creuset," said Ali with a smirk as Sakura scowled at him. Rau chuckled slightly.
"Quite stubborn," he agreed. "It's good to see that you're back on your feet."
"Bah! The doctor ordered me off active duty for at least two weeks to recover! I'll be fine in a day!"
"Listen to the nice doctor Sakura," said Shizuru sternly.
"... yes Shizuru."
Had
the individuals involved not been military, this almost meek response
might have been comically followed by people falling over in shock. But
that was not the case, so moving on...
Quote:The transport plane arrived at Gibraltar in the earliest hours of the
morning, carrying a single passenger and her badly damaged mobile suit.
As Sakura stepped out of the plane wearing a skirted ZAFT Red uniform,
she found herself accosted by four worried teammates and two extremely worried attendants.
"Sakura, please
don't do anything so reckless in the future," begged Reika, laying on
top of the girl she'd dedicated her life to after knocking her to the
ground when she tackled her for one of the tightest hugs Sakura had ever
experienced. Reika was clearly more distressed than she'd ever been in
the past -- tellingly, she never begged, and hadn't referred to Sakura by name alone in years.
This
flew over Sakura's literally down to Earth head, though, as she was
trying to remember how to breathe while having the life squeezed out of
you.
"Now Reika, calm down and let Lady Sakura breathe... " said
Hosaka in his usual, too cheerful voice. He was just trying to keep his
cool and be calm and considerate, but Reika took offense to him not
expressing more concern for their mistress, though he really was quite
worried, and simply knew she wouldn't appreciate him fully expressing
it.
Alas, it doomed him to an entirely different fate.
"WAAAHHHHHH!"
Yzak,
Sophia, Dearka, Shiho and the handful of ZAFT troops observing them
winced sympathetically at Hosaka's cry of pain as he lay sprawled
facedown and twitching on the ground, no doubt with bruises forming on
his head, face and arms. Reika towered over his prone form, glaring down
at him, hands planted firmly on her hips, purple hair framing her face
in a manner that seemed to reflect the violence she'd just inflicted on
the unfortunate body lying on the ground.
"Lady Sakura nearly gets
herself killed and all you can say is calm down?" Reika screeched. "You
disgust me Hosaka! How can you even think such a thing?"
Sakura, now somewhat recovered, looked over at her teammates. She shook her head with a slight sigh.
"Reika, could you get my bag?"
"Yes
Lady Sakura!" said Reika, doing a complete one-eighty, both physically
and behaviorally. She grabbed the bag containing the things Sakura had
had in the Aeon's cockpit with her during the battle as well as her
Staver uniform, and rushed to take it to the quarters Sakura would be
sharing with Shiho and Sophia.
With the crazy maid now gone, the
others finally came closer. Yzak offered Sakura a hand up, while Dearka
and Shiho checked on Hosaka's prone form.
"He'll recover... I think," said Shiho uncertainly.
"He'll
be fine," assured Sakura, somewhat dismissively. "Hosaka's body is
pretty much built to take the sort of beating he can dish out, and if he
clocks you, you're probably dead. Give him five minutes."
"Uh... okay... "
"You should probably get to your room to rest," said Yzak. "We can talk more afterwards."
"Sure. You can explain to me what all of you are doing down here."
"We were worried, obviously."
The
answer came not from one of her teammates, but from the suddenly fully
recovered Hosaka, who had only a few very small bruises forming. Sakura
wasn't surprised. The other pilots were gaping, which drew a slight
giggle from the brunette.
"I appreciate it, even if I think it's foolish," she said. "Anyways, Hosaka, where'd Reika take my stuff?"
"Right
this way Lady Sakura!" said Hosaka cheerfully. You couldn't even tell
that he'd just taken a beating that would leave most folks in the
hospital overnight, which simply left the onlookers even more
mind-boggled as he led Sakura away.
