On Sunday, fifty people read -- or at least looked at -- that chapter. I don't know if that's a little or a lot, given the context (posted on Friday, first weekend after posting, first story posted, and an Eva fic), but it feels like a lot. Exciting and a little nerve-wracking, that. Remember that "at least in theory" thing from the OP? That's come back to bite me once or twice, and it's starting to now. I get ideas and think "Hey, in the right hands, this could make a really good story," which then feeds into fears that my hands might not be the right ones, leading to page fright. And now I've got expectations to fill. (Yeah, Bob's 13th and 15th guidelines, I know.)
I've only got like 2 KB of the next chapter written, and I've started a text file for notes that's currently 6 KB long. There's a lot of stuff that I need to plan, especially because of the cast size. Rei, Isaiah, Shinji, Gendo, Ritsuko, Asuka, Misato, even Kaji and Toji... it's like playing human pinball. I'm not used to planning multiple intersecting character arcs. I do have an idea of how I want it to end (if I manage to stay with it that long), so that's something.
And of course there's the Real Life Comes First factor, with me currently halfway through a Composition II course. That's going to slow me down for the next couple weeks.
Seriously, though, yes, it is useful.
