(mad laughter, which continues for some time)
So you made a neat gun, now there's SCIENCE! to be done?
Name suggestion for the spell variant used second: Setter Missile. If you can alter the plain orbs to look like a dog or dog's head (specifically, an Irish Setter, of course) even better.
If you can do tactile illusions with neutral mana, consider a spell that leverages The Menace of Doggie-Tongue for the trololo spellbook - a big, squishy sheet of (preferably pink) force that sweeps over the target from foot to head, pushing them back if not off balance entirely and covering them in thin, runny, faintly sticky, warm goop for a few seconds before the effect dissipates, possibly to be called Setter Kissile.
Maybe I just have names mixed up? I thought Sette was 6 and Sein, 7, which matches the order you list above. It would honestly be a bigger surprise if I didn't, though. I am absolutely useless at remembering names.
Late thoughts: I'm kinda sad that there was no cute/scary Cinque scene after pulling her, the combat specialist, out first on that Relic retrieval mission. Also, it wasn't until I read the posts on SB that I remembered the drones involved in the battle that led to Ford being found also used golden, phaser-like energy bolts.
