On a tangent: Erich Hartmann of the Luftwaffe flew 1425 missions, fought in 800 battles, and scored 352 kills. He made over 30 kills in his first eight months of combat. But -- he was flying mostly against inexperienced and, from what I've read, undertrained Russians. It's also my understanding that the Russian planes in the early years of WWII weren't all that hot. I've often wondered how he would've done against better-equipped and trained adversaries.
