Quote: Can anyone make sense out of the fold drive graphics there? From what I can tell from that and the text, it seems that they're portraying fold drive as not quite the tesseract that the name implies. It
seems to cause space to "fold" like bending a piece of paper multiple times. The ship traveling through the folds gains great distance initially(as
the folds are close together), but less as the journey goes on, because the energy output required to maintain the fold begins to grow, spreading the folds
out(and increasing travel time) until they reach a threshold where they simply HAVE to come out of fold drive. So essentially, the fold drive is kind of a
"rocket boost", as the initial, short range to mid range, folds would be instantaneous or much faster than light speed, while long range folds would
take more time as the energy threshold nears, explaining why you don't have ships from every Macross colony fleet rushing over to help protect Galaxy.
