I can live with the decreased screen time Mai gets in Otome, but I'm more bothered by the fact that she apparently doesn't see any need to so much as drop her family or friends even a postcard saying 'Hi, I'm not dead, just found an unexpected master' or something. Shizuru dropping her cell phone in a toilet for a few days or weeks to take care of a nigh-catatonic love interest when the universe is painting the padded walls in its own excrement is one thing, but just blowing off your family for a decade or more is another... In short, it makes Otome!Mai a very different person from Hime!Mai, and one I'm much less inclined to like or even respect.
