Wow. Regardless of how weird the guy got during the back end of his life, he was still a Talent with a capital T.

Weird J.D. Salinger fact: The character that James Earl Jones plays in the movie Field of Dreams was J.D. Salinger in the original novel, Shoeless Joe.
