people have been working on a universal flu vaccine for quite some time now.
I have my doubts that this will turn out to be as effective as they hope.
The article mentions that "so it started creating lots of different antibodies based on its memory of other flu viruses it had previously encountered".
Which is great if you've lived a long time, and been exposed to lots of different variants, but doesn't help much if you only have 2 or 3 under your belt.
Also this assumes that future flu variants won't mutate to the point of 'recognition, but no protection' (like what happens between the four dengue fever serotypes).
Cause having your immune system say "I know what that is!" only to have the response be highly non-effective is not a good thing.
