I'm actually worse off than those that didn't guess it after my big hint in recommending the story and trying to make sure the owner of this forum would read it.
The description of the demon's "pelt" actually made me think of coyote fur and I still didn't get it until the very end.
I guess I could use the excuse that I've seen "convincing" evidence that the coyote is alive in the 24 and 1/2 century where it's revealed the coyote is directly responsible for the disappearance and death of Hong Kong Phoey among other characters.
As for Xander describing the body as a "Demon" that is to be expected we are after all seeing it from his point of view.
As for clues
5. I'd add the blueprints and the description of what was on them.
6. I'd also add the description of the rockets, at least in a second glance seems to me to be cartoonish along with the rockets themselves, which are used regularly by the Coyote.
