Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries by Neil deGrasse Tyson
The Black Hole War: My Battle with Stephen Hawking to Make the World Safe for Quantum Mechanics by Leonard Susskind
both try to explain black holes (and other things in Tyson's book) because they are well known to the public, and our models on how they operate have some disturbing gaps when looked at via the standard model and quantum physics*
* at least that is my understanding of things, I don't have a phd in astronomy or particle physics. So all my knowledge is 2nd to 3rd hand
