I have a SATA 2.5" SSD as my "primary" (read: OS and apps) drive here. The only programs I don't use it for is my Steam library. It's fast. I can boot up in about 20 seconds, from cold. As long as a system has a SATA connector, it should work.
The only issue with them is storage size - you typically have to pay enough for even 512GB that you really will want a system to have TWO drives, with the other one being a "traditional" HDD to serve as data storage. I actually prefer to do this anyway, because it makes data slightly more "portable" if I replace the system.
