IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!
Er, wait...
Seriously, though... XCOM 2 is in my opinion better in pretty much every way, with the sole exception being a purely technical issue -- namely, the fact that it's less than a month old and they have some bugs left to patch out.
And I say this as someone who *doesn't* play in Ironman mode -- or as I like to call it, Masochist mode. Though from watching the LP community, the Ironman mode is very well done, if that's your cup of tea. I personally don't enjoy flogging myself, so!
I'm waiting eagerly for the mod community to recreate EU and EW in the XCOM 2 engine. And, tellingly, Firaxis has included pretty much all the art assets in the mod editor, so I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of time.
I really enjoyed XCOM back in the day, but had several almost-rage-quit moments. Mine were mostly due to mind controlled troopers, because THAT is some B**@*($ ahem. The Chryssalids were a close second, though.
In XCOM 2, it's like they've taken all the stuff that made me rage-quitty and smoothed it over. It's still there, you can still get horribly mangled by a single misjudged move or RNG screw, but everything else is so much better and more intuitive that... I just don't find myself getting angry at it now. I was pissed that the Gatekeeper annihilated my medic, but it didn't feel 'unfair'; it's what I would've done, if I was on the aliens' side and had just seen the player pull such a stupid, reckless stunt.
I'm rambling. Short version: I think XCOM 2 is more awesomer than XCOM 1 and if your experiences with 1 are like mine, I think you'd like 2, too.
