Since it's come up... IIRC, it's fanon that the city under the Macross was Toronto. The show only says they were over the Ontario region. (Now, I can understand wanting to destroy Toronto, because it's Toronto, but the geography doesn't match. There's a conspicuous absence of any of the Great Lakes near the city shown on-screen -- which also lets out Hamilton, Windsor, and Kingston.)

If I had to guess, I'd guess that the doomed city was North Bay. (I suppose it could be London, but there's a boreal forest full of trees shown in the episode and not very many trees in southern Ontario.) Goodbye, Dionne Quintuplets Museum...
