I'm pulling this out of the tabletop game In Nomine, where many reincarnated "saints" don't know who they were until something happens in their lives to unlock their past-lives' memories. (Not necessarily something stressful, although that's always popular; it could be a quiet event strongly associated with a particular past life.)

As for the trigger thing.... Ehhh. It's a bit played out, I think. I kinda blame Worm for making the concept so popular. And as we've already established, I'm trying to take things in directions least traveled.
Really, I'm going for a more Alia Atreides kinda thing, only that these people have been through enough lives that, unlike Alia, they'd know the value of at least pretending to be children.
Like I said, I'm not really feeling it just yet. We'll see what comes my way in the future.
