Solid Shark's Monochrome Duet has updated, but it's the beginning of a zombie arc, so blegh. It seems to have signs of being based on that anime or manga with the armored train, and zombies called Kabaneri, I think? For obvious reasons, I didn't bother wit h many details of that series either. Anyway, if you didn't remember the title, this is the SAO fic where that oddly realistic elf NPC comes back to team up with Kirito at the same time Asuna joins the KoB and further multi-floor Elf War quest line related hijinks ensue.
