If you leave the "shire" out entirely, then you only have a one-syllable word.
Pronounce it something like the name of the guy Jeeves works for: "worcester" ("woost") is the first syllable, and "shire" ("sher") is the second. So, yeah, Bugs is adding all those extra syllables in the middle of the word.
