And as a CP sufferer from birth, I get frustrated at people dissing B&B as un PC for people who have disabilities - growing up I was absolutely agog at the idea of someone with a serious physical disability being able to run a starship, space station or megacity - and even eventually running android avatars! As for the idea that the book sadvocated exploiting people with disabilities - in my experince, the doctors looking for ways to make me better, did worse than was ever described by the Federated systems described. I got a good laugh out of the do-gooder activists described in the series, having experienced that sort of fair-weather bleeding heart type myself over the years.
