I don't suppose there's any room for "Death of the Author" in this debate? You know, ignore who created the work and let the work stand on its own merits and flaws, whatever those merits and flaws might be.

That has the added benefit of voting with your wallet. If a creator is rewarded for doing one thing and not rewarded for doing another thing, the first thing is more likely to be done by that creator in the future... isn't it?
