Because for all that Windrip is an asshole, NATO is a mutual defense agreement. And if they don't honour it for one member, no member will honour.
NATO won't bail out the USA for military adventurism. Especially not with the likes of Trump at the helm. But strike at actual US territory? Unless the USA forsakes its oaths, you can bet the rest of NATO will heed their own.
And frankly, if the USA has fallen to ruin, so has much of the rest of the world. It's a keystone in the world economy, like any major trading block.
