In a joint press release, Frigga Station Council, and John Henry Station industries have announced the signing of contracts for the construction of three nuclear fission reactors of the 'channelised' type. The first prototype - Unit 00 - to be of the 1500MW electrical class, with Unit 01 and Unit 02 achieving outputs exceeding 2400MW each, making them the largest nuclear reactors in termals of both thermal and electrical output ever manufactured.
The channel-type construction with block moderator permits the construction of large, powerful reactors without the requirement for large pressure vessels or complex manufacturing techniques.
John Henry will manufacture reactor sections in prfabricated blocks for transport to Frigga via galaxy railroad. Reactor modules can then be rail-transported by Frigga's own internal rail-network for onsite assembly.
Three reactors are to be built on Frigga. Unit 00 - a technology demostrator proving the viability of construction and operation, and then Unit 01 and Unit 02 - employing nuclear steam superheating to achieve efficiencies comparable with Generation 4 technologies from a modular channelised reactor design with much greater potential for scaleability.
Anna Freecat, Frigga's Councillor for Engeering had this to say. "Once completed, that'll give Frigga a massive power generation capability - beyond any other similar settlement. Our plan is to turn Frigga into the industrial and agrictultural centre of the Crystal Millenium. These large, powerful channel type reactors will grant us the power to revolutionise our world. It's the first step towards being more than a backwater."
A spokesperson for John Henry Station Industries added. "This is the largest individual project ever undertaken by John Henry station. We're happy to be given the chance to prove that we can not only take on a project of this scale, we can deliver it to the highest of standards. This'll be a challenge, but one we're looking forward to meeting and exceeding."
Both go on to state, the basic principals of the design are well proven in earth operation with no major incidents in the last thirty years of operation. Modifications to the reactor to enhance safety, have been made based on parafuture design developments detailed in the Whole Fenspace Catalogue.

"By the time we're finished, we'll have a closed fuel cycle. Any high-level waste is incinerated by the fusion reactors into something manageable on human scales. The plutonium which is seperated out and sent to Atalante. In five year's time, we'll be fuelling every single Roughrider-manufactured craft in Fenspace - we'll be the only fuel source. it's guaranteed money for another ten years at least. It makes Frigga necessary, rather than an inconvenience.
The electrical power's a waste product."

I love the smell of rotaries in the morning. You know one time, I got to work early, before the rush hour. I walked through the empty carpark, I didn't see one bloody Prius or Golf. And that smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole carpark, smelled like.... ....speed.
One day they're going to ban them.
