Origin:Terrence Knight
RE: Origin:Terrence Knight
#2
Background: (Class:None at this point, intro incident that lead him toward getting one, also at this time was unaware of certain boons and curse he was saddled with by Gate.)

Without warning Terrence was plucked from his home and had been deposited in some unknown forest with fauna that was mostly unrecognizable and just seemed foreign in shapes and coloration. However knowing he had more important matters to deal with like finding civilization if possible he picked a direction and spent a few days trying to escape said forest which was quickly discovered to have hostile humanoids so those days were spent hiding and sleep deprived out of fear.of being caught.

He found his way out and as luck(?) would have it was near a roadside tavern, however between a few days of being awake out of fear and berries he recently ate out of desperate need for sustenance that were unfortunately not entirely safe to consume he wasn't entirely of sound mind. With bad timing of approaching during a vicious brawl going on inside he was stabbed in the shoulder and in delirious bid for survival killed him, the action drawing the attention of another unscrupulous individual whom had been traveling around scouting for certain individuals that meet certain criteria.

Waking up he had found himself taken by the man to what seemed to be a tribal encampment of some sort deep within another unfamiliar forest, however even untrained as he was felt vastly different from the one he escaped from. Upon the threat of death if he didn't comply Terrence was forcefully brought into what he would later discover to be a greatly dwindling faction of warriors with this being one of the last encampments. With little choice given his current situation he complied and was thrown off guard again when given a crude spear and a small satchel of food and escorted to the gate leading deeper into the forest. When turned to ask he was shoved out with the words "This is Kreshokk the forest of the first age borne of the blood and bones of the fallen primal god Khorvak. Survive for a year if you can and you will be retrieved for proper training."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AN: At this point there was 2 or 3 game sessions to basically training montage where Terrence picked up wilderness survival skills, his instinct and life sense along with gaining base stats to a fighter level. Ended in killing a displacer beast during a nightly rainstorm. It was a way my friend/DM revealed the early benefits of the instinct skill. Still a near death experience though.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As told when sufficient time had passed he was escorted back to the village and spent another hard year or better of training to learn how to properly fight with some melee weapons and further improve his physical conditioning. Having to bluff his way through the training he hid the fact his body was already understanding the combat training faster than he knew was normal instinctively grasping the lessons when they were physical spars and the such.

Once the small tribe council was satisfied with his physical conditioning and thought he had grown complaint and unlikely to turn on them Terrence was blindfolded and taken to an unknown location where he was subjected to the final horrific ritual done by someone or something that rewired his brain so to speak so instead of feeling fear he'd feel further anger and madness and linked his mental state to his soul.
------------------------------------------------
AN:This is the point he finally got his class 'Soul Fury' a offshoot of a berserker class. While He did have access to a more common berserker style rage which did slowly inflict damage over time to himself and heavy fatigue when it dropped he also got the Soul Frenzy ability. Far more powerful and dangerous, inflicting the equivalent to temporary negative levels to himself every round and with unique skills attached to it allowed him to hit -way- above his weight class so to speak. This was an incredibly taboo thing he had been subject too and the reason this tribe was hunt down to near extinction. Given the nature and downsides of the ability and the taboo on soul related practices Terrence had to use it -incredibly- sparingly. Very much awesome but impractical trope.
------------------------------------------

After leaving the forest Terrence made it a priority to learn what he could about what had happened to him but information was sparse due to the nature of the near extinct tribe so much of the 5-6 years afterwards was spent hunting clues between and often caused some of his adventures. It was early in his travels that he started learning about the boons he had been granted which helped immensely in his travels and much to his frustration learned about the curse which to this day persists in a lesser form in his bad sense of direction and due to the curse he came to realize he couldn't be someone friends or allies to rely due to the high chance of vanishing at any point which caused a shift in his mindset to try and avoid growing too attached to anyone. He'd reluctantly admit it has helped him out on more than one occasion but he'd have been much happier without!

He made ends meet by doing the occasional adventurer job of exterminations and later started doing bounty hunter work when he wasn't snooping around ruins that he'd come across with his skill set being highly apt at countering traps and secret passages. With one of his boons being storage he'd packrat away most things of interest along with an overabundance of food and survival supplies using funds earned from bounties and the treasure he did sell to stockpile goods in an almost paranoid fashion as he often found himself away from civilization for extended periods especially when secluding himself for harsh training as his skills evolved and branched out oftentimes in battle or other dangerous environments.

The final game sessions had Terrence throwing in his lot with a large band of mercenaries hired to stall a monstrous army being lead by the standard disgruntled warlord until the kingdom he was currently in could properly mobilize its army, which surprisingly went reasonably well for the first few days until the numerical advantage of the monsters wore away at the mercs causing numerous morale check failures causing more to simply retreat from battle a domino effect depleting the allied forces quickly. Having grown rather fond of the unit he was grouped in and knew they'd stick to the bitter end Terrence tried and failed to persuade them and was forced to intimidate them and force them to fall back to the nearest village in hope's they'd kill any monsters that got past him as he stayed behind.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AN:As a solo character Terrence at this point was effectively a one man army and these session was to be our last due to RL getting in the way on my friends end with his own family starting, so this was to go with a bang.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally no longer at risk of friendly fire nor anyone around to ask uncomfortable questions that he'd be hard pressed to answer he finally cut loose with everything short of his Soul Frenzy and tore into army like a force of nature. The savagery of the sudden assault and the losses that he was quickly accumulating spooked the Warlord into revealing his trump that he had been planning to save for the capital city, using a mad god's artifact he subjugated the crimson sky emperor, Valcorsorax the All Burning whom should have been in a slumber. With little option available to him as he knew what would happen if he escaped Terrence was forced to engage in a desperate battle.

It was mostly a stalemate as Valcor couldn't land a decisive hit due to the sheer scale difference between its massive body and the tiny figure in comparison and found its spells being highly resisted by Terrence, and on his end Knight couldn't deal any significant damage even with his battle frenzy and chi augmented strength or chi beams and at by this point had mostly started to stall and hopes an opportunity would eventually show itself. The stalemate eventually broke and not in TK's favor....

Having gotten used to countering the standard fire breaths with a blast of chi or a barrier Terrence had gotten ready to meet it again when he saw the head rearing back, but this time finally Valcorsorax used its true breath weapon and before Terr could react his instincts took over and autonomously to use the building blast of chi to instead to propel himself rapidly away from the location in a desperate act to evade. To this day I still remember my dm/friend telling me to 'Roll a sanity check' and while I did make the check..barely the sight of what happened was burned into Knight's memory to this day.

The title of 'All Burning' showed its true meaning when a wide swath of area where he had been just before burned away as a crimson black blaze consumed the very fabric of reality in the area burning away causing a massive rift to the great nothing beyond. Valcor wasn't affected much by the suction of the rift due to his mass and the nature of it being caused by his innate ability. Not really having the time to afford to process what he saw Terrence anchored himself to the ground as he didn't share such immunity and provoked Valcorsorax to come after him getting outside of the rift's suction range and further from the now endangered village before getting into combat again now paranoid about that breath weapon.

It wasn't long afterwards TK was bluffed into making a mistake by Valcor faking another breath attack luring Knight in and catching him, leading to making some strength checks and taking damage every turn due to the dragon trying to turn him into a snack.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
AN:At this point on the verge of death the DM turned it into a more cinematic moment and strongly 'suggested' to use Soul Frenzy which given the situation I didn't have much choice since I didn't quite wanna lose the character I've been playing for a few years. Points I would have earned up to the dragon fight were funneled into a Soul Frenzy evolution.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

His instincts forcing him to surrender his sanity and enter an evolved Soul Frenzy which Valcorsorax was utterly caught off guard for leading to its rapid demise as TK's attacks damaged and absorbed its soul the evolution letting him counteract the self inflicted spiritual damage by siphoning the damage he did. By the time Knight had regained his sanity he found himself standing on the enormous dragon corpse and saw a mostly devoured hunk of meat in his hands apparently in a maddened feral state he had tore open the dragon's chest and started eating its heart in a bid to replenish all of the energy his body burned during the conflict and the meat of a being like this worked wonders to replenish some of the self damage caused by his extended Battle Frenzy before he had entered the Soul Frenzy.

Final AN:The campaign ended here, and it would be a couple months after this where Terrence would be taken from this world by Gate and dropped off on Primal Earth where his first round of the CoH timeline took place before the Battalion arrived. Now given how 'The World' operated with ownership and Terrence devoured and assimilated Valcor's soul, drenched in its blood and ate its heart you -know- there was going to be big consequences for this down the road.
=============================================================================
Edit:Figure I'll add in his Pre-Coh skills here then make a new post later for his CoH segment. I'll also be doing separate posts for a couple other things later.

Boons:These were granted by Gate at the start but certain ones took longer for Terrence to discover than others. Most of them was just to skip inconveniences as far as I can remember.

Rapid language understanding: Able to effectively understand and communicate in any language that can be mimicked by human vocal cords within minutes of exposure to them. Has a good chance of learning or getting a fairly good grasp of non verbal languages.

Divine health: Anything that can be classified as a sickness/illness or a disease will have no effect regardless of it being natural, man made or supernatural/magical. Some poisons will work however, admittedly never knew to ask back then what criteria the poison had to pass to work.

Dimensional Storage: Effectively unlimited carrying capacity though due to Gate's..quirky nature it had the condition of having to treat it like ACME stuff space. Everything put in and taken out had to be done over the shoulder so was limited to what he could manually lift over his head. An issue he had to deal with later is organizing everything in a way he could remember it, there wasn't any system in place innately to tell him what he has and doesn't have. So he was forced to do an inventory, put things in labeled crates if it wasn't a particularly memorable item then keep a book that had a list of what he has stored.

Pseudo Curse The Long Step: (Not the actual name but it didn't have one so I gave it one eventually) This was often a McGuffin tool to let the DM make Terrence travel long distances for different campaign sessions Now that I think back it usually happened after the gm rolled some dice without warning..kinda wonder if he had a number system set up linked to locations that campaigns were planned lol. It comes packed with a couple aspects...

--'Random' Teleportation in the form of vanishing mid-step,often rounding a corner of a building to only see himself in another city, passing through a doorway into an entirely different room elsewhere. It wouldn't actively put him in any immediately hostile to life environments..hostile stronghold? Yep. Lava? Not so much.

--Corrupted sense of direction: He's effectively got the Ryouga Hibiki direction sense. Navigation aids by magic or otherwise tend to act..odd when used for him. Between this and teleportation he quickly learned the necessity for self sufficiency and to try and avoid making bonds with others, not always successful but he got very used to being on his own.

--Where the Pseudo comes in: Teleportation can potentially trigger when someone whom he has a bond with is in risk of immanent death or might end up wandering right to exactly where he needs to be if there is a dangerous situation arising. (I even called out my friend on that, was told to roll with it lol so I did. At least it was always entertaining!)

Abilities in order of acquisition:Starting with ironically his most inhuman skill

Instinct:A combination of Instinct, insight, intuition which plays a hand in just about everything he does. At first it started off as a rudimentary danger sense that evolved over time to combat precog, sense intentions and intuit falsehoods even if he can't tell exactly what is being falsified or spoken half truths, will know if he's being observed even indirectly via something like scrying. Expanded to fighting without sight or other senses the first showing was against the Displacer beast.

Autonomous reactions while unaware or unconscious, can and will override his conscious actions as shown against his final battle against the dragon to avoid its breath. Furthermore grants large bonuses to learning melee combat styles often picking apart enemy fighting styles on the fly, chi training and accuracy bonuses when using ranged chi blasts. (AN: If every shounen hero had a bullshit busted skill this would be his.)

Chi savant: Originally starting off as Life Sense it was advanced to basic Chi detection by the time he left the forest, shortly after during a physical training session an accident occurred and he was forced to learn how to manipulate his own to reinforce his internals, muscles, joints, ligaments anything that was stressed during heavy exertion. Learning reinforcement opened some upgrade paths to expand upon.
--Body and skin hardening, refined over time to deal with multiple damage types through trial and error.
--Physical augmentation including speeding of reaction speeds.
--Reinforce objects held by sheathing it in his chi effectively also attaching whatever he's holding to him.
--Projecting and shaping his chi

Reinforcement Technique :Anchoring: Due to an incident involving him getting driven into the ground by a titan despite having the strength to directly block a downwards blow Terrence took that as a lesson to evolve his reinforcement of objects to expand his aura downwards over and into the ground effectively greatly expanding his surface area and anchoring himself to the surface he's on.

Chi sense evolution :Living World: Through how he trained his energy reserves he gradually came to learn how to better sense the flow of life around him, evolving to sense not just living creatures but the ambient chi in the environment and planet, the world around him becoming more like an omnipresent warm blanket with colors and shapes representing living things around him. entities like undead, golems, and the such are represented like holes in said blanket and stick out like sore thumbs to him.

Nearly inexhaustible as much like a tree so long as his feet are on the ground he'll constantly be drawing up life force from the ground below and the surrounding environment. Certain limitations include dimensional pockets that doesn't sustain life naturally, or out in space or places like the moon.

Broken Physical limitations: Due to an incident early on he was left with the ability to far surpass standard human limits well into super strength category with his muscle's, bones and the such growing more dense over time.

(AN:These skills, more specifically soul frenzy was lost post dragon soul consumption)

Berserker Frenzy: A fairly standard rage augmenting his physical attributes at the cost of health damage per round and post battle fatigue, offers additional poison resistance.

Soul Frenzy:Igniting his soul in madness his abilities scaled exponentially as he burned all that he is, both physical and spiritually for the sole purpose of destroying the foe in front of him. Every attack did physical and spiritual damage the spiritual aspect bypassing defenses and ripped away the soul of what he struck, this granted him the ability to temporarily see spiritual entities that might otherwise be unseen and more importantly slay something that might otherwise be immortal or unkillable on that particular plane like a archdemon that can only be killed on its home plane.

(AN:Soul Frenzy was to be Replaced by Several Dragon type skills but since the game ended...its all kinda dormant at the time.)
