The hard part is finding one with HDMI passthrough or decode from other sources. It's a bit of fucking around really
Although, amusingly, I have just discovered that my desktop may have 7.1 channel output on its motherboard. Which makes sense because it was build 7 years ago as a media-box. I just never married it to anything more than 2 channels.
It just becomes a matter of finding a working blu-ray player software that'll actually run on my PC. Getting Blurays to work with VLC can be done, but it looks like a hassle. The big paid for application seemed to be crap at first but has figured itself out - it just sort of wants 90 euro. Leawoo player works but it's just a bit 'clunky' and rough as a badgers arsehole.
Audio is definitely working on the thing - I spend most of this afternoon getting it working on 2 channels after a Windows 10 update broke it completely. It'll definitely do the 7.
