I find the American belief that roundabouts are difficult to be puzzling.

They require all involved parties to act reasonably and with awareness of the surrounding traffic as well as where they want to go, which is typically two things too many to really trust any random stranger behind a wheel with at the same time. Give me stoplights with marked lanes for turns or proceeding straight across any day. Even a four-way stop.
