Bah, Humans are just the result of a magical crossbreeding project with elves and dwarves, that worked a little too well for the fool wizard's good. Most of a Dwarf's sturdy constitution and aggression, most of an elf's grace and magical talent, absurdly high reproductive rate and short maturation to bring them to the field faster as a swarming disposable army.

Who cares if their lifespan is barely long enough to learn the barest hints of more subtle arts as long as they can throw fire and lightning, and bang together a basic enchantment or two for the elites to use when they have to face an actual Champion? Damned fool got a taste of his own medicine and they've run wild ever since, with the remnants of the fertility magic that let them exist in the first place all too easy to reignite with nothing more than will and five or ten minutes' worth of simple tantric ritual, maybe a few scented candles, music, and a prepared chamber at most.

As smart as any Elf or Dwarf, sure, and more's the pity when they grow fast enough to get dangerous in just decades but are into their dotage in under a century, before they can start gaining any real life experience to temper it with wisdom -- and that's if they live that long at all. A chaos-born plague if you ask me, and more destructive than a swarm of quartzmites if they keep on like they have.
