But I did recently come across this 2-year old thread at EPU and people seem to think it’s a garbage fire. But I remember nerd rage when the second trilogy came out, but they really weren’t that bad. (Other than Hayden Christiansen and Natalie Portman’s atrocious chemistry.)
when the prequel trilogy came out, there were accusations that George was focusing on the bits he thought were cool and ignoring what the fans thought was cool.
Episodes 7-9 were produced by Kathleen Kennedy, who seems to think the only things that matter are what she thinks are cool, and feels the need to degrade and wreck the heroes of the previous films so they don't draw attention from her little snowflakes. Starting with Rey being a mary sue.
The fact that Episode 8's director (Rian Johnson) decided to throwaway the dangling plot threads from Episode 7 (directed by J.J. Abrams, who also did Ep 9) while he ripped off ideas from WWII movies and Empire Strikes back certainly didn't help. It was pretty good visually, but even during the film I was noticing plotholes big enough to fly an X-Wing through, and the more I thought about it later, the more (and often bigger) plotholes I found.
Ep 9 had plenty of problems, but at least some were caused by the shitpile Johnson left them to work with.
