I read several of those banned books in middle school, and may have read Fahrenheit 451 even earlier. I've definitely read Fahrenheit 451, 1984, The Scarlet Letter, and Lord of the Flies. I think one class had me read either the entirety of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn or at least a few chapters.
I probably read To Kill a Mockingbird, but may have just watched the movie in class (it was over 30 years ago). That one English teacher did love showing movies in class, including ones that had nothing to do with books (ie. Holiday Inn and Casablanca). He also loved having us read southern novels like Losing Battles and The Sound and the Fury. That class taught me to love good B&W movies, and to hate meandering southern novels with vague plots.
