Meh.

Four decades ago, we were telling people "The Moon landings will always be Not That Long Ago".

Two decades ago, we were telling people "The release of Pac-Man will always be Not That Long Ago".

Two decades from now, we'll be telling people "The COVID pandemic will always be Not That Long Ago".

Defining events happen once a generation.


(Oh, and it wasn't the Millennium that was the defining event for the 2000s. Everybody expected Y2K. It was 9/11 that surprised people and defined the age.)

Those events do not 'define an age'.

They are merely convenient reference markers.
