Steel Canyon
Caroline crouches on the roof top corner... She would of preferred a gargoyle, but nooooo, Paragon didn't have any gothic architecture to brood on, so the roof top corner would do.
So she brooded... Till a flash light was shined up in her face. "Hey miss, you got a licence?" An officer called up. "It's just we got a call in cuz you been up there for almost an hour."
Grumbling, she grappled down and pulled out her hero id for the cop, this was embarrassing.... Bet this stuff never happened in the comics. She stood there as the cop read her id card. "Huh, ya look a bit young for this cape stuff." He commented. "If ya gonna patrol, don't stay to long in one place, makes people worried there gonna be some big cape fight or something, have a nice evening."
As the cop walked back to his car, Caroline was about to climb back up where here phone went off, to night was not her night for heroics. Looking at the caller id, she swore under her breath as she noticed the time, answering she coughed. "Hi dad?"
Seraph let out a long sigh before talking. "Caroline, what time is it?"
"Er... After nine?"
"Yes, after nine... On a school night, we have had this conversation before."
"But daaaaaad, all the evil sorts come out at night, got to patrol the city, keep it safe."
"This may be a fact, but some flaws with your thinking. One, we live in a city of heroes, one person will not make that big a difference. Two, you are sixteen and have school.... How you gonna be a big hero if you flunk out?"
Caroline groaned, he had a point, he always had a point. "I'll be home soon."
Seraph let out another sigh. "Thank you, love you."
She hung up and looked around to see if anyone had heard that embarrassing conversation, only seeing some clockwork pulling apart an air conditioner. "The hell you looking at?" She snapped as the clockwork returned to their petty theft.
Pulling out a grapnel, she started swinging to the nearest tram to get home, cheeks burning under her mask.
King's Row
Seraph's House.
Caroline climbed in the window of her room and grumbled, slowly pulling off her costume and getting her PJs on. She looked at the posters of heroes around her room, both comic and real life and sighed.... She bet they didn't have to worry about school and curfews, no they where all lime light and action... While here was she, still taking on skulls and outcast.... Not that it wasn't important, but compared to her sisters... Neph beat some Praetorian goddess and Gir was the public's darling... And here she was in the shadows.
She climbed into bed, pulling her stuffed bear to her. "One day, I'll be a big shot like them." She muttered.
Next morning.
Caroline sat at the kitchen table, sipping her coffee as the family blistered around her, dad and mom had hero stuff to do, Neph was spending the day with her girlfriend and Gir had her day job in Paragon construction, helping rebuild the city when ever some one broke it.
She took a sip of her coffee and looked over to the only other two people sharing the table with her, her cousins Lief and Alicia, the young elf demolishing a bowl of porridge while Alicia was staring daggers at a school time table.
"Fun day?" She asked, trying to crack the ice.
Lief took a break and nodded. "We play with clay today, gonna make momma a cup!" She proclaims proudly.
Alicia rolled her eyes. "PE, yet another excuse for my classmates to oggled my tits and ass." The demonette said bitterly.
Caroline gave a shrug. "Can't be that bad, right?"
Alicia stares at her. "I am the only girl in my class that needs a sports bra, you tell me."
Caroline slumped, making friends with her new cousin was hard. Finishing her coffee she got up and yawned. "Well, catch you at school." She said, heading to her room to grab her back pack, Lief waving happily while Alicia grunted.
Family was tricky.
