Heinlein was of the opinion that people should have to do something in order to get the franchise -- he put it in his nonfiction as well as his fiction. "Serve a term" was one of the options he proposed.
Don't know whether our Usagi would want to do that, considering she'll at least be exposed to the Senate of Canada. No hereditary members, and nowadays no "life peers" either; there's a mandatory retirement age.Buit one gets into the Senate by being noticed in a good way. I'll grant that a lot of the time "being noticed" means "because you're a party insider", but it doesn't have to be.
