There's also the issue of the number of votes to be counted - a quick search says the population of Ireland as of 2023 was estimated at 5.262 million. I do agree it would be a long chalk better if we'd kick out the Electoral Collage and go to a ranked voting system without splitting the popular vote up into regional blocks smaller than the area of responsibility for the office being voted for, though.
