Quote:Lyra figures out how to walk between worlds and for seven years has been searching for Will's world, with no luck so far. What she has found are countless other worlds, some of which are interesting, some of which are boring, and some of which have serious, serious issues that apparently the Powers-That-Be have decided it's *her* problem to solve. Usually these problems involve other-world-type issues - issues that Lyra might be the only person *capable* of fixing, like objects from foreign worlds that have been in the wrong place too long and are causing General Reality Weirdness.
When she's twenty-seven and one night she stumbles into the Forbidden Forest on the night Peter Pettigrew (almost) escapes, Lyra can feel something seriously, deeply wrong with this world - and there's also something wrong with this Harry kid, and Lyra has never been able to leave well enough alone in the first place. Let alone when it comes to kids that might need her help. First thing's first, she should probably stop these kids from getting eaten by that werewolf. Yeah. Werewolf.
Lyra can already tell this one's going to be a real headache.
“We can never undo what we have done. We can never go back in time. We write history with our decisions and our actions. But we also write history with our responses to those actions. We can leave the pain and the damage in our wake, unattended, or we can do the work of acknowledging and fixing, to whatever extent possible, the harm that we have caused.”
