...You're getting hot dog buns at $1.25 each, with a limit of 3. Not so hard to figure out. Granted, the person making the sale sign should probably just have *done* it as '$1.25 each, Limit 3' to begin with. Though to be honest, the sale sign was probably a company-wide thing, while the limitation was local to that store due to supply issues, not a company-wide thing as well.

At most grocery stores I've been to, if it says 4 for $5, the first 3 are regular price with the discount only kicking in when the 4th is run thru the till.  Now granted unless the regular price is $1.50 or more, or you need a LOT of buns, it wouldn't really matter.
