For over two decades, Tribe 8 has captivated roleplayers with its haunting vision of a post-apocalyptic Montreal, where humanity struggles to survive in the shadows of monstrous beings and a forgotten past. Blending mystical horror with deeply personal stories of trauma, faith, and rebellion, it forged a legacy as one of the most emotionally resonant RPGs of its time.

Tribes in the Dark brings this cult classic into a new era. A standalone tabletop roleplaying game of struggle, transformation, dreams, and resistance, it reimagines the world of Vimary through the Forged in the Dark system.

The island of Vimary is a land of broken ruins and buried truths. Once ruled by the terrifying Z’bri, it is now under the theocracy of the Seven Tribes and their living goddesses — the Fatimas. You will take on roles as one of the Fallen, cast out from the Tribes, and marked as heretics, criminals, and threats. Together, you form a Cell: a found family surviving at the fringes of Tribal society, fighting for meaning, healing, and hope in a world that rejects you. Haunted by the Z’bri, hunted by the Tribes, and driven by visions from the River of Dream, you must carve out your place in a hostile world and, maybe, reshape it.

Tribes in the Dark games focus on community, spiritual power, and collective resistance, with mechanics that elevate dream-fueled magic, personal transformation, and the hard consequences of survival. You will change the world — but it will change you first.

This project began six years ago as an ambitious attempt by three Tribe 8 fans to revive the game using the Cortex Prime system, with the goal of licensing the property from Dream Pod 9. While early drafts showed promise, Margaret Weiss Productions’ sale of Cortex Prime to Fandom removed the possibility of licensing Cortex. So we decided to build a new version using Forged in the Dark, a system that naturally supports Tribe 8’s themes. Dream Pod 9 supported this direction. Now, Tribes in the Dark is not just an homage — it is an official reboot of Tribe 8, published by Dream Pod 9 and created by a team of longtime fans.
