The Dead Dove Locker -- "I don't know what I expected."
RE: The Dead Dove Locker -- "I don't know what I expected."
#66
Princess of the Void.

Dukerino Wrote:“Ah—Countess. Before you go.” Sykora holds up a finger.

Wenzai freezes, a woman on a wire. “Majesty?”

“I believe you, you know,” Sykora says. “That this was sabotage. Plenty of smoke in the air pointing that way.” She leans her cheek on her fist. “I’m sure you have a lot to wring your hands about down there. But on this score you needn’t fear. I have plenty of wrath to spread around; none of it falls on you.”

Wenzai exhales heavily. Her shoulders drop. “I, uh—thank you, Majesty. For saying that.”

Sykora winks. “Go tend to your people, Wen.”

Wenzai’s bow takes her momentarily off camera. “You got it, Majesty. Talk soon.” The hex displaying her talking head goes blank and slides back into its seamless place on the firmament panorama.

Also, on his official discord, Duke Wrote:I wanted to let everyone know that Princess of the Void's first book will be releasing in audio, physical POD, and Kindle Unlimited eBook on January 13th! It'll be formatted and edited courtesy of Shadow Light Press, with an audio edition of the book available from our friends at Podium. You will be able to have your favorite space gremlin in your ears and on your shelf.

As a necessary evil of that release, volumes 1 and 2 of Princess of the Void will be stubbing on January 12th, 2026. Stubbing, for those unaware, is a requirement of Amazon's exclusivity policy on eBooks. It means that the first two volumes will be removed from Royal Road and Scribblehub, and I'll also have to take down the exported ePub versions on my Patreon.

After doing a lot of hardcore pondering on the above and speaking with personal friends and authors I admire, as well as clearing it with my publisher, I have decided to go wide with Princess of the Void.

"Going wide" means that I am turning away from Kindle Unlimited. I was reminded that I enjoy my dayjob! And I get plenty of writing done while retaining it! And ambitions of making writing my dayjob, while admirable (and I haven't given them up) should not compromise artistic vision. I've been doing this for a year and a half, at this point, out of love for the game, and that love for the game has not receded. No reason at the moment to fuck with the formula; I am blessed with a comfortable wage already, and my readership has been more than generous with its patreon dollars.

Standard wisdom is that not doing KU is leaving a fuckton of money on the table; KU, I'm told, usually accounts for 70% of a book's income. But standard wisdom is also putting your explicit content behind a paywall, and I gave that the finger. I will not be stubbing Princess of the Void. I apologize if you were anticipating reading it with Kindle Unlimited, but hey. It'll stay free on RR and SH for you.
