I would have said something about working as well as any other ecample if rivitazation and deregulation of a previously government monopoly, but usually those are only set up when there's either existing solutions waiting to take over or government infrastructure to be sold off and continue in awervice supply chain and all, not a twelve step plan on step two for how private sector replacements can be developed. But hey, a lot of congresscritters' buddies have gotten a whole lot of money thrown their way in the last decade and a half, sp everything's wprking out great, right? Right!? That science stuff wasn't important anyway; damn hippies just kept blabbering on about "environment" this and "ice caps" that, abd dudb't eveb kusteb when the Presidebt -- the President of the United States of America, you know, that's a very important person even if he wasn't their ultimate boss -- told them "No, we need the hurricabe to go this way, there's too many voters over there." Really, what did they expect with that kind of attitude? /sarcasm

(And yes, I realise that the Shuttle program ended well before that particular bit of idocy, but it's part of the same pattern.)
