Just a comment on the SI-ness of Dough talking to Keiichi about his relationship with Bell: It's no worse than Doug talking to Shinji about his fear - you aren't fixing the problem, you're just teaching them to look at it from a different perspective so that they can fix the problem themselves. Yes, it is fairly typical SI behavior, but it's also fairly canonical Doug to try and talk to people about their problems and help them look at them from a different perspective...
I'd keep it if that's the only problem - of course it doesn't mean the scene won't have to go for other reasons, but don't let the SI-ness of it bother you.
