When he heard Jim's reasoning in response -- the movie strongly hints the blackface was a last-minute addition to the show in order to hide Linda, though I'll be damned if I can figure out what Jim thought that number would have looked like without it -- Doug volunteered to "distract" Ted and Danny in exchange for no blackface, and did so with such great thoroughness and enthusiasm that neither man even noticed that Linda was in the Inn that night.
