The drive field would act as a combination Structural Integrity, Atmosphere Containment, Defensive, and Navigational shield. You wouldn't find any leaks in the hull untill you actually shut down the drive.

You can land on a planet, just make sure that you don't squish anyone/thing important (to you any ways).
