The idea's pretty simple, tho' the execution's kind of dicey: Take a baseline DNA sequence - the averaged setup they used for the Human Genome Project frex - and feed the information into a computer. Then, you have the computer simulate what kind of person that genome would grow into. Tweak it until you've got a match, then feed the data into a bioreactor. Hey presto, instant synthetic human, just add brain patterns.
(The far end of this techtree includes fun ideas like the Darwin-Gosse machine, which can simulate an entire ecosystem and evolve it for terraforming purposes. Neat, huh?)---
