I'm not saying that Newton could have done a better job, or that he didn't do some amazing work, or that it isn't a good aproximation, but it is just an aproximation.
It's like saying Pi is 3.1416. It's wrong but it's good enough for most purposes. It's the same with newtonian physis, we know most of it isn't right be we don't are because most of the time it's good enough and dealing with relativity all the time just introduces to many extra calculations that get shwallowed up by the messurment error.
Anyway my point was that 3 generations is probably not enough time to understand handwavium, or that we nessecarily ever can. Early in the 20'th century people thought that they knew almost everything there was to know about physics, and then relativity and quantum mechanics where discovered. We might have a good basis for the basics but most of Handwavium's power would still be beyond us.
