Quote:Which is exactly why Valles Marineris was chosen in the first place; there's no grander dry channel on Mars.
Yeah, but that's like calling the Mediterranean a river, and... oh to hell with it.
Quote:I'd still like some feedback on what I've written about it...
I get the idea of the basic layout of the city - the Scarlet Tower as the "castle" in the center of town with the rest of the city arrayed out in a radial pattern. It's a little brief, though, especially in the description of the architecture; if we're calling Helium one of the crown jewels of Fenspace, then we ought to wax lyrical about what the soaring towers look like.
Quote:So, the question shifts from "is there water access?" to "how are they building this canal?"...
In the case of the Lowel-to-Hellas canal, the answer is "giant space laser." No, really - I stuck that in as a nod to RGB Mars, in which a Grand Canal is carved using a giant orbiting mirror that melted a channel from Hellas to Isidis, IIRC. The Fen canal is actually a lot dumber, since Airy Crater is way up in the southern highlands with no access to water that isn't underground. So yeah.
