Wow... That was awesome!
I think it says a lot for your writing skills that I felt like I was coming down from a ghost adrenaline rush after finishing that story. Once you get into the description of the feel of the speed from the POV character, I felt like my eyes were locked on the screen. In fact I started reading this with a glass of soda and ice sitting on the table. And now I'm looking at a a glass of soda and partially melted ice. I forgot to drink the damn thing about halfway through reading!
I think taking the POV character outside Jet and Ford really worked well. We got to see them more as we would really see them ourselves. Not to mention that the story wouldn't have had that 'at the edge of disaster' feel to it if it were Jet riding the bike. We -know- she can survive if something goes wrong. It's not as certain with a standard Mark 01 meat body riding something that was designed for a powersuit/cyborg!
I can't vouch for how authentic the Highway Star is. But having been around engines myself, it "feels" correct and real. I've been standing next to a fully race-tuned GT-40 at a Mustang car show once and if I had to describe how that engine sounded and felt like to be around, I think I'd use some of the same types of descriptions that you used here.
Once again - great work!
