While the fella's at the FIM and FAI are probably just going to go a little spare.Considering that Ben's bike will, appropriately, resemble a light cycle from Tron: Legacy? More than a few people will wig out and in more ways than one. (^_^)
Hrm... pros and cons of Ben's design vs. Highway Star:
- Rear-wheel drive only - while it would be possible to make a hydraulic motor and fit it into a hubless configuration, I doubt that one exists that would be capable of the kind of revs that would require. However, on the upside, the sheer width of the wheels should help with stability.
- Fully streamlined, but requires the rider to wear a custom fitted armor. Bronwyn Ffoulkes will be the likely record setter, with Benjamin fitted for a suit just because He and Jet are gonna go at it.
- Nearly no space for a transmission, so Ben got creative. There will be a reduction gear (doesn't have to be a huge one since the wheel is driven from a point close to its outer circumference, which is a fairly big reduction on it's own), a 3-range selector, and a 3-speed transmission all incorporated into both drive shafts as a collection of planetary gears. Changing a blown 'transmission' is as easy as changing out a drive shaft.
