[Story] [Season 1] Home Visit

#3
There is actually a mix of several different sort of invisibility being used.

The ship is using meta material negative refractive index over a layer that absorbs most electromagnetic radiation not diverted (the diversion ony affects visible light and near infra red). Over this is the active invisibility field which is using an image projector, which can be 'tweaked' to handle rain, a bit, but that's hard work (by Uran). There are also a number of force fields which are in general use, which will produce visible distortions making things even more difficult. For best stealth you turn the force fields to minimum, and fly around at no more than a few tens of miles an hour, making sure no one is using good radar to image things behind you. The ship also has a tendancy to overheat in atmosphere (if has been running 'hot') unless the image projector is allowed to vent a lot of infra red (heat) in some direction - another issue that rain makes more visible.

The (visible light) image projector also has other applications. [grin]

The personal invisibility used by Uran is a camoflage effect, backed by an image projector, and works quite well as long as she doesn't try and move quickly against tartan backgrounds. [grin]

The invisi film around the crates both makes them fuzzy and difficult to see and allows a nearby image projector (Uran's) to lock-on to their location and most effectively conceal them.

Hope that's OK.
