Quote:With a large part of an exterior wall gone, I don't think the concert hall could be returned to service that quickly...Based on the Brains post "Air Port Convention", atmosphere retention force fields were the first pass, combined with force fields preventing structural failures. This was rapidly followed by waved physical patches, with the strength of (very thin) battlesteel, to restore atmospheric integrity and physical strength. So, the concert hall was probably usable without a suit within hours.
This was followed by repair of damaged infrastructure, and it was in this stage that Brains was matching original acoustic properties - rather important for a concert hall. I know there were other people doing repairs, but Brains is a trained and practiced engineer in several areas, and he was trying to ensure that things got restored to their original function and appearance - partly to show to Boskone how rapidly Fen recovered from their attacks. Where possible he'd be working from the original plans, with the builder's annotations, otherwise he'd be deducing the plans from what remained.
Even while doing the repairs, all the damage was being recorded, partly for legal proceedings. I was claiming that "After a couple of days work there was very little visible damage left". The psychological damage, on the other hand...
Quote:she can make music-quirked wavetech begI was assuming fabric carpets, and fabrics for things like curtains, would need comprehensive repair. Brains has something like a giant scaled-up Auto Tailor, that you can feed immense carpets or hangings into, for cleaning and repair, or occasionally complete replacement. This runs on music, and while you can re-use music you've found works for previous specific projects, making a range of customised table napkins for example, quite a bit of research can be needed for new tasks. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
