As to the tactical benefits of running a voice chat program? They are profound. And I cannot overemphasize them. It's pretty much required if you are running large raids in World of Warcraft.
In WoW, however, it isn't a good idea to just let everyone speak. Usually, in a 20-40 man raid, the only ones who should be speaking are the raid leaders and the team leaders of each element.
In CoH/V, that's no so much of a concern. The largest team only goes to 8. And while you can have large raids like on the Rikti Mothership, they can actually be run without it successfully.
PVP teams on the other hand. If you can talk instantly with your teammates and your opponents have to type? Unless that other team is so well versed in what they do that they don't NEED to talk to each other all that much, you have a major advantage.
In standard missions, it usually doesn't confer that great an advantage, but it is fun and more manageable to not have to stop to type.
I for one, would be much more likely to "combat quip". ^_^-Logan
