In re: the head-splody, I am reminded of the Free game mentioned on the boards a week or so ago of Psi-Ops. There you actually -can- make heads explode via 'Mind Drain'.
Concerning the story, you have hit, right on the nose, why undercover ops are always so hard to stay true to the mission, what ever it might be. The operative is often a martyr to the cause, albeit unknowingly, or may just find out they like it better where they are more so than their previous home. I will look forward onto how this plays out.
